Ahem...

Adam asked, "Do you even read the news?"

Homer proclaimed: "Oh Brett. I believe in the tooth fairy too."

Tim wrote: "Note to self* never depend on Brettcajun for political advice. Sorry ain't going to happen."

Umm... clearing throat. Apparently, I was wrr... wrroo... wrooong. Sniff. Perhaps my pretty little head DOES serve as nothing more than a hat rack. Or maybe my hope that Obama would do the right thing, in light of the Florida and Michigan debacle, was expecting too much.

Not only did Obama just prove that he is a stubborn (and vengeful) jackass, he has effectively demonstrated the myth of his intelligence. We have just witnessed Obama's total lack of regard for the will of Democrat voters.

This strategic blunder effectively amounts to a career suicide that will plague him for the rest of his life. Hide and watch. I look forward to seeing Rome burn while Nero fiddles with the utter stupidity of his choice.

I think it's too early to tell if this is a good choice or not. For quite a while, I too had hoped for the "Dream Ticket" that Barack would pick Hillary. I saw Hillary Clinton speak at the ABC "This Week" townhall meeting in Indianapolis back in May before the Indiana primary, and was very impressed with her. She was sharp and really seemed to have a good vision. I really think though that Bill Clinton might have hurt her chances of being chosen. As recently as the last few weeks, he still wasn't willing to say that Barack was ready for the job. When asked, he said something questioning whether anyone is truly ready. I think perhaps Barack wasn't willing to take a chance on Bill Clinton being such a wild card and the potential for scandal.

I think it really speaks quite a bit to his character about Barack that he has agreed to have Hillary's name put in nomination at the convention this week. I hope though at some point that Hillary's supporters will support Barack. I hear more and more that still a large percentage won't vote or will support McCain. I'm really starting to worry about whether Barack Obama will be able to win, and just fear the effects of a McCain presidency on this country.

I don't feel as strongly - but other than Hillary, I think Biden was his best choice. I am 50/50 right now...but I do like Joe Biden...

He probably didn't pick Hillary because he felt his life in more danger than it already is. The Clintons tend to leave a lot of dead bodies in their wake of getting to the top, I can only imagine what would happen if she were put in the number two spot with claws in reach of spot one... I am afraid though, that this division of the Democratic party may eventually be the reason we get another 4 years of Republican bull shit. I admire the will of the Clinton supporters, but to switch parties or not vote would be much worse than anything Obama could do as President.

And quite honestly... maybe it is good to have someone in office that is not a Clinton or a Bush (or any of their fuddy duddies)... give it a chance... if he fucks up... vote him out...

There has been a Bush or Clinton in the White House since 1980. Time for someone new (and McSame would be just another Bush).

I would have preferred Blll Richardson, but apparently Biden gives older women the hots, so maybe he'll pick up some votes there.

In any case, it is essential that Obama wins. Think positive thoughts. Hillary for Secretary of State!

Well...

Bear in mind that Hillary Clinton, with roughly about 180% name recognition, failed to win the nomination in the first place.

Brett, you're smart enough to know that most of the states' electoral votes are safe for one candidate or the other. For instance, no matter how passionately the Democrats of Texas want Obama (or wanted Hillary, or... whatever), there's about a 1% chance that Texas's electoral votes will go to the Democrat in the race.

So it comes down to battleground states, where hopefully enough people can be tempted to vote "D" instead of "R" this time around. Hillary Clinton is a polarizing figure who, despite the adoration of millions of D's, is anathema to equal millions of R's. Obama shouldn't need to kiss up to Clinton voters - what he needs is to convince the swing voters to swing his way. There's no way Clinton could have helped in that and many, many ways she could have hurt.

You like to talk about how important winning is for you. Win, win, win. Losing sucks. Blah blah blah. Well, if you want a Democrat to win, then you need to figure out what he needs (swing voters) and swallow your oversized ego, and do what it takes to win.

Well Brett you have not been known for your political insight. The times they are a'changing and you're stuck in the 1990s, or to be generous, 2004. You PUMAs are just ridiculous. You are willing to allow our country to go to shit because you are blindly following a "personality," much the way you accuse Obama supporters of. All this talk about the millions raised ($6M-$10M to pay off her debt...more like $1M) and all this support is nuts. PUMAs are petulant children throwing a tantrum because you didn't get what you wanted. You have always said you think progressive politics is suicide, yet Hillary ran further to the left of Obama. How do you reconcile those things?

I'm incredibly fucking tired of the "Clintons are killers" bullshit. That's repeating a bunch of right wing smears they used in the 1990s to bring about investigations and impeachment. It's not that I'm a Clinton hater, I just don't think we would see challenges in 50 states. They are going to break McCain and the RNC with that strategy. I backed Obama over Clinton (although I hoped all along that he would move closer to her policies) strictly because there's a possibility to mobilize Democrats into a more progressive movement. Movements win, they create change (can anyone argue the religious right movement has not changed our country?).

As far as Biden goes, we know we'll get some good zingers (Remember "a noun, a verb and 9/11" anyone?) and all this bullshit about how foreign policy is McCain's strength is now gone with Biden. Now it will be very obvious who has a handle on foreign policy. This election is about domestic policy, and McCain is trying to make it about foreign policy since he sucks on domestic issues (those new Obama ads about McCain being clueless on the economy are priceless). He will use his POW status as some sort of "proof" of his credentials (WTF???). Bye bye foreign policy debate.

And I'd not want to see Hillary as SOS. Honestly, I'd much rather see another woman on the Supreme Court. Somewhere she doesn't have to worry about political calculations so her leftist viewpoint will come through. Somewhere that will affect our lives for many years to come. Somewhere she'll be for the rest of her life. That's what she deserves. I think we'd see the Clinton block of the court balance out some of the Roberts/Alito/Thomas/Scalia mess that has far too much influence.

I love Bill and Hillary, but what I care for even more is the future of this country and this planet.
Any Dem who votes for McCain out of bitterness/spite is betraying his or her conscience (if there is any), community, country and the future.

Quite like the closet cases in the GOP who consistently vote against gay rights, and then look for hush-hush hookups.

Brett; I agree with you that Hillary would have been the best choice for VP. If Obama loses, McCain could turn out to differ from Bush. Like most here, I do not react well to another Bush in the White House.

Consider this as well...given McCain's age, there is at least a possibility that his VP could occupy the oval office inside of eight years.

I agree, Obama is selfish and stupid and stubborn and making it all the more difficult for me to vote for him. I think he proved by choosing Joe Biden that he is in BIG TROUBLE. Otherwise, Obama would have chosen someone more in line with his message of change. I' mean Biden voted for the war like someone else. Biden has been in Washington longer than the Clintons' so much for the message of changing washington.
What a total boob Obama is... HATING HIM.

I agree with Dan C, looks like another Republican will pull us down for another 4-8 years. Be ready for Democracy as we know it to end because our country will be overthrown by some sort of dictatorship/totalitorian leader due to American complacency. The "good ole boys" system is leading us to destruction.

oh for crying out loud brett!!!!
You are a democrat, this is the time when democrats have to get back to the white house REGARDLESS of who the nominee is.Let's not act like brats..this is not a super sweet 16 party where the birthday girl gets to have whatever shee wants.Hillary lost i repeat SHE LOST!!!It breaks my heart but even with Michigan and Florida, she would have lost. Now Brett sweety...correct me if i am wrong but isn't America a Democratic country??I mean from a dynasty of Bush to a dynasty of Clintons...isn't it time for another politician to take control of the party. And on that note let me remind you that the Clintons might appear like the messiahs of the gay community but they are the ones who the brought up one of the most disgraceful "laws" gays in the military (don't ask son tell...remember that one?).

It seems to me that your argument boils down to "Obama is stoopid and stubborn because he didn't do what I wanted him to do." Given that he's currently the nominee of the Democratic party and that you're currently eating your words, I think it's just possible that he understands politics somewhat better than you do.

There is no way Obama could ever succeed with Hillary as a VP - nor could she do so as nominee with Obama as VP. Most of the provincial, insular people of America can only do one hurdle at a time, either electing a black president or a female one... trying to do both on one ticket would be a disaster, maybe in Holland or Belgium that might work sadly not in America.

That being said, I can't wait to see the VP debates with Biden up against the mayor of Northern Exposure. He's going to stomp her. If it were Hillary the whole issue would be focused on the notion of two women VPs debating, losing out on the nutty nature of McCain's pick.

Bottom line though - people vote for President not VP.
